Marketing goals are the specific tasks and objectives defined by your business. These can be increasing sales margins, improving marketing KPIs, expanding into new markets, and so on.

When defining goals, it is strategic to follow the SMART goal framework:

  • S – Specific
  • M – Measurable
  • A – Attainable
  • R – Realistic
  • T – Timely

Using this system to define marketing goals leads to more accurate marketing campaigns.

In all marketing, establishing explicit goals help to shape, focus, and refine your decisions in regards to market spend, marketing strategy, and marketing efforts.

If you are inexperienced at marketing, not having detailed goals will lead to a lot of wasted effort, resources, and time. Whereas an experienced marketer knows the best moves to make when spending money and resources to reach a specific goal.

Having measurable objectives for your marketing efforts will generate a better return on investment than a business that doesn’t have clearly defined goals.
