It also provides an example video script so you can see how it’s done. Whether you’re writing copy for an explainer video or are looking to create educational videos of your own, this step-by-step guide will help you write better video scripts and become more confident in delivering them before the camera, too!
Learn how to create an effective video script for your business. Some basic principles will help you build the foundation of your script, allowing you better capture your audience’s attention and highlighting key points.
1) Introduce Yourself & Your Product – The first five seconds of the video are crucial; introducing yourself and telling viewers what the purpose of this video is helps create expectations in people’s minds about what is about to come. Make sure you keep the topic short and simple so people know exactly what they are watching. For example, Hi!
Tell what you’re going to talk about in the video
1. The Script for Your Video – For an instructional video, make sure you start off with an introduction that explains what the viewer is going to learn about. Make sure it’s concise and inviting. If the video is more narrative or entertaining, you can come in with a bang–use your opening scene as your opening line (something exciting like What would happen if?). Then the rest of the script should follow the arc of your story, tying everything up neatly at the end. 2. How to Build a Story Arc – A story has three parts: beginning, middle, and end. Start by introducing the protagonist; this is who we’re following through their adventure. Set up the conflict–what are they trying to achieve? Why are they trying so hard? Introduce all of the major players and give them some time on screen before anything goes wrong. When things go bad, don’t pull any punches; get into every twist and turn with gusto!
Say what your main point is
A script is essential for shooting an effective video and we’ve put together some guidelines on how to write one in this blog post. For those of you that don’t want to read through our text, here’s the quick video of the main points:
1) Give yourself enough time before you start filming and go back through your script. Practice reading it out loud, so you’re comfortable with it and any glitches will be easy to spot. If there are too many scenes or if the dialogue needs simplifying, now is the time to make changes. Once you’re happy with your finished product, print off copies of your script and get started!
2) Read it aloud while reading along – this way you’ll catch mistakes easily because they’ll jump out at you when they are read out loud.

Many people think of video as an opportunity for fun, and create videos simply for the joy of it. But there are ways that you can use your video content for marketing purposes too. With this in mind, I thought it would be good to show you how you could go about creating a video script!
First, figure out what kind of video you want. What do you want the main point or message to be? Do you want it to be informative? Inspirational? Engaging? After figuring out the type of video you want, come up with a few key points and messages you will include in your video. A general rule is to have 3-5 points or messages. Make sure they’re specific enough so that people know exactly what they’re getting from watching your video!
After deciding on the key points, write them down into sentence form, each on its own line.
